Newsletter 15 February 2019
We’ve all had a fantastic week here at Headstart. We have made bread, explored paint and talked about texture and colour changes. The children have loved the new changes that have been made in the playroom layout, especially the home-corner. We have made and experimented with playdoh and gloop this week, making volcanos and investigating how they work with the use of technology.
Today is our last day before we break up for the half term, returning on Monday 4th March. We ask if you do anything interesting in the holidays could you please send over emails and pictures so we can discuss this with your children. We will be kicking off the first week back with World Book Week. Sponsor forms have been sent out this week for our sponsored read (Monday 4th March to Friday 8th March) and Thursday 7th March is our fancy-dress day (for a donation). We ask if children could come dressed as their favourite character and bring in their favourite book. We are asking if your child could be sponsored by family to read as many books as they can with parents, grandparents, siblings, uncles, aunties…. If they could collect their money and bring the forms back to us by Friday 8th March, we can see who has collected the most money and will win a prize. We do this every year and this has always been a popular charity fund raise for us. This is also a good chance for you to spend time with your children and listen to their stories, language and imagination!
Please remember, the sponsored read and dress up day is all optional and not forced! We ask for fund raising as this helps to keep us as a preschool running to purchase new resources for your children. We are in the process of re-vamping the inside room as this was a request from the children.
As we like to prepare, we are asking for cardboard egg cartons and empty kitchen rolls. Please could you bear us in mind before throwing them out…. These will be used for an activity we have planned coming up.
On Friday the 8th March, 1pm – 3pm at Selby North Children’s centre on Flaxley Road, there will be a drop-in for parents to seek advice you may have on your child regarding Communication and Interaction. Two highly trained consultants will be there to have a chat with you. One is a Speech, Language and Communication Needs; and the other specialises in Autism. Its free and no appointments needed. You and/or your children are welcome there.
Parents evening- We will be holding our parents evening on Thursday 14th March. This is your chance to look through your child’s memory folder and have a chat with your keyperson. For new starters, a chance to see how your child is settling in. This is NOT compulsory so please do not feel this is a must. Please only book your time if you know you can make it. Last year, some parents booked a place and staff ended up waiting around with a no-show. Staff also have families to get home to and have been working all day so would like to leave as soon as they can 😊. The time sheets for booking will go out on the first week back after half term in the cloakroom.
When we return after the holidays, session checklists will be sent out for September 2019-September 2020 places. These are the sessions that your children have already been assigned to. If these are correct then no action needs to be taken but if you would like to change or add any extra sessions then please feel free to tick the session checklist and return to setting or speak to Monika or Kirsty to alter these. The sessions will be allocated on a first come first basis are spaces are limited and filling up quickly. Thank you.
We all hope you have a fantastic and safe break and look forward to hearing about your adventures.
